There were again exciting competitions in the first and second Bundesliga league on the second competition day.
In addition to strong performances, however, there were also one or two surprises at yesterday’s competition evening. As with the Bundesliga competition in Speyer two weeks ago, this time we were in Obrigheim – Corona compliant – up close and personal, providing exclusive insights.
Already before the start of the competition in the Neckarhalle in Obrigheim it was clear that the opponent from Roding had to be taken more than seriously. Because exactly two weeks ago, the TB 03 Roding defeated the champion from 2019, the SSV Samswegen.
It was therefore all the more painful for team boss Manuel Noe to have to do without one of the key players at short notice.
Nico Müller dropped out due to the consequences of a Corona vaccination, which further worsened the starting position for the Obrigheim weightlifters. Because also the renunciation of foreign top performers in order to give the own youngsters the chance to compete increased the chances for the strong squad of TB 03 Roding.
LIVE on sportdeutschland.tv and commented for the first time this season, viewers were able to watch an exciting competition at prime time. None other than Jürgen Spieß, together with the former junior national lifter Adrian Müller, led through the evening and provided the fans in front of the screens with information about the competition.
TB 03 Roding showed a cohesive and strong team performance, which led the team – as already against Samswegen – to victory and the early entry into the Bundesliga final.
The snatch was won by the Roding team with a narrow lead of only 0.1 points, not least because of three valid lifts by Gregor Nowara (145 kg/170 kg), Hans Brandhuber (132 kg/168 kg) and Peter Kulzer (140 kg/177 kg). Matthäus Hofmann from Obrigheim had it in his own hands until the end, but was unable to lift the required 146 kg. In the clean and jerk, the team led by Matthias Hecht from Rodingen left no stone unturned and scored a commanding victory for the Upper Palatinate team. The best lifter of the evening was Gregor Nowara. With 145 kg in the snatch, he showed a decent increase in performance compared to the last competition.
Outstanding performances on this evening were also given by two ladies. Annika Pilz (75 kg/ 90 kg) set her previous best in the snatch and only just failed to reach 78 kg. Weightlifting Shop athlete Lena Tomkowiak (73 kg /90 kg), meanwhile, celebrated her debut in the SV Germania Obrigheim jersey and on the Bundesliga stage with new competition bests. The young women from Kiel failed in her third snatch with 75 kg and in the clean and jerk with 93 kg, but will certainly set her sights on these loads for the next competition in three weeks.
In the second first league competition in Schwedt, Brandenburg, the host met a young squad from AC Mutterstadt. TSV Schwedt was ready with the top line-up and won both the snatch and the clean and jerk. Jon Luke Mau (115 kg/158 kg) and Leon Schedler (107 kg/128 kg) laid the foundation for this victory with performances over 150 relative points.
Weightlifting Shop athlete Amanda Poulsen (85 kg/106 kg) also showed a decent increase in performance compared to the competition in Speyer and together with her Danish compatriot Omed Alam (140 kg/170 kg) also contributed to the strong team result of the Brandenburg team.
In the competitions of the second league TSV Heinsheim won clearly against the second team of TB 03 Roding, KSV Grünstadt prevailed in an online event against AC Germania St. Ilgen and AC Potsdam lost at home against a strong squad from AC Meißen.
The next competitions in the two leagues are scheduled for 22nd of May, 2021. Then, among others, AC Mutterstadt will meet AV 03 Speyer in the “Palatinate Derby”.
