With two competitions in the First Bundesliga, the 2021 Corona weightlifting season started in Germany, yesterday evening.
The outstanding athlete of the first competition day was Lisa Marie Schweizer. She took fourth place at the recently finished European Championships in Moscow.
AV 03 Speyer against TSV Blau-Weiß Schwedt was one of the two competitions in the first Bundesliga, yesterday,. Today’s competition was attended by 8 athletes who just a few days ago participated in the European Weightlifting Championships in Moscow.
Besides the German veterans Jürgen Spieß (he retired from professional weightlifting at an international level during the European Championships) and Simon Brandhuber, the German ladies Lisa Marie Schweizer, Patricia Rieger as well as the Belgians Nina Sterckx and Annelien Vandenabeele joined the line-up of AV 03 Speyer.
But TSV Blau-Weiß Schwedt also showed their international level and its will to fight against the record champion with Jon Luke Mau and Denmark’s Amanda Poulsen.
This was also the case for Jon Luke Mau, who remained only 2 kg below his performance at the European Championships with a total of 280 kg and even moved the same load in the clean and jerk with 162 kg.
However, neither he nor his new teammate Amanda Poulsen could stop the AV 03 Speyer from winning this competition. Although Poulsen also put in a solid performance in her Bundesliga debut, the strong squad from the Palatinate was not to be beaten on this evening.
First and foremost Lisa Marie Schweizer crowned her performance with personal bests in the snatch (102 kg) and the clean and jerk (123 kg) and once again underlined her ambitions for an Olympic spot.
Especially a competition against Schwedt could not have been more fitting. Because at the age of 14, she started her weightlifting journey at this club from Brandenburg.
Lisa Marie was more than enthusiastic after the competition:
It was her 225 kg in the overall ranking in combination with the solid performances of her teammates, which made the AV 03 Speyer’s win perfect. With 840:756.7 relative points, the Palatines won all three points in this competition.
Meanwhile, there is no well-deserved break for Lisa Marie Schweizer yet, in mid-May she will have to prove herself once again at a qualifying event for Tokyo.
Our Weightlifting Shop athlete Nina Sterckx (84 kg/106 kg) did not have the best day with only three valid lifts. Annoyed about her performance she showed a new personal best with 112 kg in the clean and jerk after her competition in the warm-up area of the AV 03 Speyer.
In the second competition of the evening, SSV Samswegen met TB 03 Roding in an “online event”. Surprisingly, the club from Roding won with 677:599.8 points and thus also secured 3 points for the overall ranking.
Worth mentioning is among other things the performance of the young Roberto Gutu (SSV Samswegen), who was the best lifter of the match with a total of 305 kg (137 kg/168 kg) but could not oppose the closed team performance of the club from Roding. The whole team around veteran Gregor Nowara showed strong performances with only a few “no lifts” and proved that the squad can continue to perform after top performer Simon Brandhuber left.
In addition to the two first league competitions, there were also two competitions in the second league yesterday. The KSV Grünstadt won against the second team of TB 03 Roding. In the last competition of the evening, TSV Heinsheim won against AC Germania St. Ilgen in front of an empty club house at home.
Apart from the Speyer vs. Schwedt competition, all competitions can also be watched as re-live on sportdeutschland.tv. Hopefully, the next competitions taking place 05/08/21 will also be broadcasted LIVE.
